Self care, to me, is about personal happiness, fulfillment and rest. I do many things like art, photography, reading, eating and laughing with friends to relax and refuel myself. I do these things daily. As self care is a necessary part of my daily routine or else, as a counselor, I will burn out within days. But, my ultimate sacred ritual of self care is to completely fill a tub as I run a hot bath, add bubbles, light a candle and close my eyes. To engulf my body in a state of rest, warmth and luxury resets my equilibrium and truly drains toxins, stress and stiffness from my mind, body and soul. To have no distractions or pressing matters waiting, to lose track of time and to just float. To nurture. This is my self care.52 Portraits is a photography course in self discovery by Vanessa and is hosted through Get Messy Art Journal.
