Brush Magazine

Dreams. Dreams come true. Sometimes ones we didn’t know we had.

Tanyalee approached us this summer about creating a magazine, a real magazine. In print. The real thing. We were honestly so overwhelmed at the moment. Caylee was knee-deep in new (adorable) baby and I was homeless, traveling and country less. But Tanyalee had a strong, beautiful vision and all the skills necessary to see this project through. She only needed our support and collaboration from Get Messy. Quickly things took shape. We decided to follow the Get Messy schedule: release every two months, loosely based on the current theme of Get Messy.

Tanyalee took a dream: elevate art journaling in the way it deserves. Beautiful. Celebrating the art, the makers, the conversations, the hopes, the gifts, the struggles, the ideas. Bring people together and provide a tangible resource for people to hold in their hands.

She delivered my friends, above and beyond.

The first issue of Brush is beyond perfect. So modern and stylish, but with the playful beauty that is handmade.

There is artwork, there are articles, there are tips and prompts to get you making right away. It is not only beautiful, but useful. You can even tear out a few pages to hang on your wall or color and add into your art journal.

I have an article included When Art & Family Collide: How To Talk To Your Family About Your Creativity and Art Needs. It has tips, support and ideas for what to do when your family doesn’t understand and support your art and creative time. As a child, I wanted to be a writer. And now I am published in my own magazine. I cannot even fathom to explain this.

You can purchase it in physical form here or digitally here. We are printing them through Blurb, so they are printed and shipped to you as soon as you order. I highly recommend the physical copy. The book is so beautiful, it deserves to be held in your hands. I cannot wait to see my shelf lined with each edition. The paper quality is so high, it is thick and velvety to the touch. A true paper lovers delight.

You can submit YOUR artwork and writing to be included! We would love to feature you! Find out so much more on the Brush Website. And a giant thank you to Tanyalee for making following this dream into a reality. We love you friend! Here’s to many more!
