Today I am talking with Isabela Tavares, professional costume designer and university professor about her creative process. Isabela shares so much wisdom on topics from dealing with criticism, collaborating, copying versus being inspired, gathering and translating inspiration and more. She shares about her experiences designing costumes for plays and television all over the world. This episode is a fascinating look behind the scenes of just how much creativity, work, thought and purpose goes into every aspect of a show and the people behind it. You will love learning more about this creative field, plus Isabela shares how you can use your own clothing and creative practices to add more meaning and depth into your every day life just by getting dressed each morning.

Isabela Tavares is fascinated about costumes' unique ability to document history, and convey social, political, and cultural changes, as well as human behavior. Growing up in Brazil, she had a very diverse and liberal education, developing a great interest for the arts from all over the world, which not only influenced her curiosity for different people, cultures, and languages, but also her decision to pursue costumes as a career. As a professional costume designer and illustrator, she strives to combine her natural creative skills with a passion for telling stories through colors, textures, shapes, and fabrics.Isabela is an Assistant Professor of Costume Design at the American University of Sharjah, UAE. She has previously taught at Virginia Commonwealth University in the US, where she earned an MFA in Costume Design. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Fashion and Textiles from the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
