Practicing Daily Gratitude

Art Journal by Lauren LikesThis year I am working on a few daily habits, one of them being to practice gratitude daily. This week has been a hard one. Heck, this year has been a hard one and what we have needed most was gratitude. Terrell and I are working through this habit together. We found that we were coming home and complaining, to no end, and realized this was slowly growing bitterness inside of us. To make a change we started asking each other each night what we were thankful for that day and recording it. Slowly and surely, we have seen and felt a change and when we do not focus on this and celebrate the good moments, we can feel the difference. I purchased The DayKeeper Journal (which is crazy gorgeous) and each night I record something that we are both grateful for.A few entries:

  • Dinner + laughter with friends
  • Watching a movie together
  • Sharing the gospel with a student
  • Soul filling dinner with a friend
  • Friends who love Jesus and push us towards Him
  • Waking up overlooking the ocean
  • Relaxing together
  • A nap that reminded me of my need for rest
  • Making a delicious dinner together
  • A kid responding, when I asked what was something good about him, "I am made in God's image"

After pursuing this habit for 3 months now, I can look back and see the things that give us life: friends, rest, Jesus, time together, being outside, laughter, meals shared with othersThis habit is slowly changing our hearts and is surely showing us what is important to us and how we find joy. And that is something I am grateful for. What are you grateful for today?
