Workspace Wednesday: Craftroom tour

It's Workspace Wednesday! So I thought I would share my favorite place with you: My craft room.

This space was originally a laundry room/utility room/junk room/strangely misused room and was a terrible color. So I have attempted to cover, literally, every inch of the walls.

The Before:

1-office

The After:

The photo line is from Ikea for about $10. I use it to hold favorite photos, inspiration, journaling cards with projects im working on and goals, and my blog content calendar hang there and things are always changing. The triangle art piece is from a tutorial by A Beautiful Mess.

I am so in love with this room. I could spend all my time here. Big windows, lots of storage and space and creative juice flowing everywhere.

The boxes on the shelves are from Ikea/Michael's/hobby lobby. I stamped a little label on them with what they hold: junk, office supplies, craft supplies, photos and glue. I have a whole box of glue and It all doesn't even fit in there. This is real life people.

05-IMG_456219-IMG_4516We only made a few small updates to the room and it sparkled. First we sold my original desk for $100 big ones. It was a fantastic desk that my dad built that got me through college. It had a kitchen countertop and 2 desk spaces, which I used one for school work and one for sewing/crafting. We then took the money and purchased the 2 floating shelves from Ikea and some other items. We found this blue paint at Lowes in the 'oops' bin, ya know wrong color mixing yada yada, and painted the accent wall for less than $5. I filled the shelves with tons of fantastic storage boxes from Ikea and other collected items like mason jars, vintage containers, etc. The rug is just a plain beige rug I picked up for $10 at Habitat and painted with house paint using this tutorial. (way too much work if you ask me and its all crunchy and hard on your bare feet, but oh so cute) 04-IMG_4559

The desks are the most fantastic part. They are $5 wooden doors from Habitat for Humanity that I painted and laid across $15 saw horses from Ikea. Boom. Instant, movable desks that are HUGE.

On my desks I keep my Project Life/Scrapbooking stuff set up and all ready to go for whenever the creative spirit strikes. And underneath I store my sewing machine and my easel. These get used but not super often and are way too bulky to leave on top of the desks.

I swear, Becky Higgins and her team are geniuses. Those project life trays are the bomb dot-com. I keep all my PL cards from multiple kits in it and then store other embellishments within arms reached. I try to sort them out as best I can: journaling tags, strips of accent paper, wood veneers, stickers, letter stickers, etc.

One of the most useful organizers I use is a Lazy Suzan that holds cans, covered in scrapbook paper, and other containers that hold pens, scissors, sticky notes, etc that I can easily rotate to find the right tool.

Above right, is where I store most of my everyday scrapbook paper, both organizers are from Hobby Lobby. In the bins are my stamps/inks and my most use scrapbook tools like paper runner, corner rounder, glue, etc that get too cluttery if they sit out. I'm very selective about what goes in this bin because I want it to be easy to find the tools I use the most. The wooden box is where I store my washi tape, tutorial here.

And in this corner we have, weighing in at about 50 pounds, the lovely, the sturdy Target box organizer! Seriously. I love her. She holds/hides so much stuff. Bottom right photo, is inspiration central. I keep my craft books and my DIY mags close for anytime I need an idea or something to browse that is not web-based. There is just something about print that I love too much to go all digital.

This is what my space normally looks like, well honestly its a ton messier every day that ends in Y. I am normally working on a project life spread over here....

And do digital work over here. I have a side job where I work from home and have to keep up with a ton of paperwork, so this is the perfect place to do it. Or if I need to spread out a large project I have the flexibility and room.

Thank you for spending time with my in my sanctuary, my hiding place, the place I need to go when Im stressed or bored or have so many ideas they are spilling out of every inch of me. This room is always a work in progress and always messy. Sometimes I think I work well in the mess, but mostly I don't. I think I need to get 'clean up, Lauren' tattooed on my hands. My husband would definitely support that. I am so lucky to have 1. a home that has so much extra room for me to have my own space and 2. a husband who fully supports my crafting/messy ridiculousness and helped me create such a fantastic place.

Do you have a craft space? Please share! If you have any questions about products or tutorials please let me know!
