Rainbow Grunge: On evolving artistic styles

Recently, as I have had my business branding updated and I have redesigned my travel journal (coming soon) I realized that I kept telling my designers that what they were sending me was "too pretty" and I wanted it to look a little rougher. We ended with a very modern and bright but grungy, very handmade feel for each of the designs.

I realized the same thing as I’ve been working on this painting in my journal the past few days. It’s very lovely and I love the soft colors but it still felt a little too pretty, so I grabbed my black pen and graphite pencil and grunged it up a bit and now I love it.

So lately I’ve been terming my style as "rainbow grunge" .

Style is funny like that and I love to see the evolution of it for my art throughout the years. Im emboldened by the feeling of coming into who I am as an artist, which entails knowing my style and taste, and really owning that and leaning into it. So here’s to rainbow grunge.

What about you? What’s your current style? Do you feel like it’s a strange combination that only you could own?

PS don’t forget you can come and create with me at the Radiant Art Retreats and play with your style too. Find the perfect one for you and sign up here.
